In-home euthanasia
The lowest posted in-home fee per provider runs $295 to $545 (median $400, middle half $378 to $428, 23 providers). An in-home visit usually costs more than a clinic appointment because the vet travels to you and sets aside unhurried time.
Many vets quote one fee that covers the visit, sedation and the euthanasia itself, then add aftercare. Some publish bundles with communal or private cremation already included, so compare totals, not headline fees.
Cremation
Communal cremation starts at $45 to $390 and private cremation at $120 to $800 among providers that post prices. Most crematories set prices by weight band, so a large dog can cost several times what a cat does. Some providers offer aquamation (water-based cremation) instead of flame cremation; we list it with cremation and label it as the provider does.
Communal or private?
- Communal: several pets together; ashes are usually not returned. The lowest-cost choice.
- Private or individual: your pet alone; ashes returned, often in a simple urn.
- Partitioned or semi-private: pets separated within one chamber; ashes returned. Ask how separation is done.
Some providers use “individual” for partitioned cremation. If it matters to you, ask directly whether your pet will be alone in the chamber.

Choosing a time and a place
Hospice and in-home care aim to keep a pet comfortable, and the decision is shared between your family and your veterinarian. (2016 AAHA/IAAHPC End-of-Life Care Guidelines) Whether to be present is a personal choice; some families stay, some say goodbye beforehand. (AVMA)

How these figures are made
- Only prices posted on providers’ own public pages count. Estimates never enter these figures.
- For each provider we use the lowest posted price for the service for a dog or cat; heavier pets, travel and add-ons cost more. Pocket-pet, bird, reptile and rabbit prices appear in each provider’s table but don’t set these figures.
- Providers whose website terms bar reuse are listed without prices. Full methodology.
